Robert “Bob” James

Robert “Bob” L. James of London, ON, passed away at LHSC, Victoria Hospital on Monday, September 21, 2026, in his 82nd year.

Beloved husband of the late Gail (née Hague) Auckland James (2018), and the late Barbara (née Brooks) Richardson (2024). Loving father of Cindy Fedorowski and her daughters Emily and Abby; Jennifer Ruz (Francisco) and their sons Mateo and Diego; Robert “Bob” James (Kathy) and their children Rebekah, Erin, and Matthew; and Terry, Greg, Larry, Sharon, and Robin James and their children. Dear brother of Sylvia, Gordon (Joyce), Kenny, Larry (Martha), Cindy (Victor), late Lillian, and late Sharon. Also survived by his nieces, nephews, and their families.

Born in Utopia, NB, on May 13, 1945, he was a son of the late Gordon and Annabelle (née Cook) James. Bob owned and operated James Masonry, a business he built with pride and dedication. A skilled bricklayer, his craftsmanship and attention to detail can still be found throughout London and the surrounding region, where many homes, businesses, and buildings stand as a lasting testament to his work.

Bob never knew a stranger. Known affectionately for calling everyone “Bunky,” he had a gift for turning acquaintances into lifelong friends. A naturally social man, he could often be found at a local coffee shop by 7 a.m., catching up with friends, solving the world’s problems, and sharing stories. By lunchtime, he was likely gathered around a card table, where his competitive spirit, quick wit, and love of a good game made him a formidable opponent and cherished companion. Bob was truly a card player extraordinaire.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Bob was happiest in the outdoors. Anyone who spent time with him knew about his favourite fishing rods, the perfect lure for the day, and the stories that accompanied every catch. Whether casting a line, heading into the bush, or reminiscing about past adventures, his passion for hunting and fishing was contagious. He was a proud member of White Oaks United Church, Glanworth Lodge #289, I.O.O.F., the Mt. Brydges Lions Club, Moose International, Ducks Unlimited, the Thames River Anglers Association, and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, organizations that reflected his lifelong commitment to community and the outdoors.

Above all, Bob will be remembered for his generosity, his storytelling, his sense of humour, and the friendships he built wherever he went. Whether he was laying brick, sharing a coffee, playing cards, or teaching someone about fishing, he made people feel welcome. To know Bob was to have a friend.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will gather at the St. George Rural Cemetery Sunday, October 4 at 2 PM. Immediately following the Service, a celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40, St. George NB.

If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters Foundation or the charity of the donors choice.
