Mackie grew up a Blacks Harbour boy having attended school in Blacks Harbour and graduating from E.C.R.S in neighboring St. George NB. He then went on to graduate from community college in Saint John in the Machining and Diemaster trade and went to work for Connors Brothers in Blacks Harbour. Mackie worked for Connors Brothers for nearly 50 years as well as Simms Brush and Broom in Saint John and P.R.W. in St. George.
Mackie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and everything outdoors, if not in the woods trapping with his brother David, driving with Peggy, Heather and the kids through the back country or watching his favorite outdoor programs. He also had a love for country music and watching his Leafs and Blue Jays. In his earlier years Mackie loved camping. Mackie will also be remembered as a family man who took pride in his family especially his beloved grandchildren and beloved pets. He loved attending family gatherings and parties and will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and his love for tormenting. Mackie will be missed by his family, friends and all who worked and knew him.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the Extra Mural nurses for their kind and tender care shown to Mackie and the family throughout his illness. To neighbors, Vernon Spear and Jimmy Wilcox, as well as Leo Palk and Gordie Gaudett, for their expressions of kindness as well as all who helped in any way.
