1919-2026
After a long and well lived life, the passing of Lila Josephine Green, wife the of late Payson Avery Green occurred at her residence in Ridgeview Manor, Pennfield on Friday, August 14, 2026. She was born on October 15, 1919 on Grand Manan Island to the late Herbert and Jane (Joy) Wilson. Josephine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; she was a life long resident of Deer Island where she raised her family. Josephine worked for first H. W. Welch and then for Connors Brothers in the factory for many years. She was a member of the Fairhaven Baptist Church, Women’s Missionary Society, Deer Island Seniors Group and Women’s Institute. In her spare time she loved spending time with her family, knitting and playing cribbage with Rose. She and Payson also enjoyed wintering in Florida, where they met many friends who became just like family.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Greta Pendleton (Allison) of Lords Cove; son, Bryant Green (Donna) of Fairhaven; daughter-in-law, Glenda Green of Fairhaven; grandchildren, Debbie (Joe), Laurie (Jackie), Deidre, Leigh (Terry), Derek (Natalie), Brendan (Colleen) and Katrina (Tim); great-grandchildren, Clinton (Sharon), Lindsey (Will), Tiffany, Oliver, Emma, Jared, Ashley and Hayden; great-great-grandchildren, Sam, Noah, Brandy, Bryce, and Anne and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Josephine was predeceased by her son, Garnet; grandson, Tony and her brother, Herbert.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Ridgeview Manor, where she resided for her last 9 months with her new found family.
Arrangements are under the care of the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St George (506-755-3533). The Funeral Service will be held from the Fairhaven Baptist Church on Sunday August 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Richard Hovey and Pastor Glenn Cox officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 1:00 pm. Interment in the Fairhaven Community Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to the Fairhaven Cemetery or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
