Evelyn Ada Bowden

1937 – 2026

Evelyn Ada Bowden, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, at the age of 88, after an illness. Born on October 4, 1937, in St. Stephen, Evelyn was the beloved daughter of Ena and Ambrose Bowden.

Her journey through life was marked by her unwavering generosity, quick wit, and a profound love for her family and community. Evelyn spent her childhood years in Lynn, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Lynn Classical High School. Her education there served as a foundation for a life characterized by a love of learning and a deep appreciation for history, particularly the rich heritage of Campobello and her own Mitchell lineage.

Evelyn was predeceased by her son, James, and is survived by her children, Anita Cox, Christopher Cox, and Jonathan Cox. Her legacy also lives on in her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Her life was a vibrant tapestry of interests and passions. Evelyn’s love for flowers, particularly her beautiful lupines, was evident in the colorful gardens that adorned her hillside. She was a dedicated member of many choral groups, most recently the Dennysville Choir with her tenor voice. Her hands were never idle; they were skilled in the art of knitting, dress designing, and crafting intricate puzzles. Evelyn’s homemade jams were shared generously with friends and family. Evelyn’s commitment to community service was exemplified by her role in saving the Head Harbour Lightstation. She worked tirelessly alongside a team of dedicated individuals, preserving the historic site for future generations. Her efforts and leadership were instrumental in maintaining the buildings and guiding the group of workers.

Evelyn’s departure leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but her spirit will forever inspire those she touched.

Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to April at Charlotte County Hospital, IvaLee and all the staff at the Campobello Lodge for their compassionate care and support.

A musical tribute to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held on October 10, 2026 at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to Friends of Head Harbour Lightstation.

Evelyn Bowden will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but for the kindness and love she bestowed upon her family, friends, and community.

Her memory will continue to bloom in the gardens she tended, the history she cherished, and the hearts of all who loved her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Humphreys Funeral Home.
