1956-2026
The peaceful passing of Brian Gerald Barker, husband of Martha (Oliver) Barker, occurred at his residence surrounded by the love of his family on September 23, 2026. Born in Iserlohn, Germany on May 28, 1956, he was a son of the late Alfred Charles and Ella Josephine “Jo” (Lee) Barker.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, in addition to his wife of 50 years, Martha, Brian is survived by his children: James Barker of St. George NB and Cheryl Barker (Nick Porter) of Second Falls NB; his granddaughters: Tansy Barker, Trinity Porter, Stella Barker and Isabel Porter; one great-granddaughter: Elsie Biggar; his siblings: Mark (Jennifer) Barker of Bethel NB and Jacqueline “Jackie” (Gary) LeBlanc of Bloomfield NB; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
With his dad serving overseas, Brian was born in Germany and the family moved around frequently in his younger years. Upon moving to Oromocto as a teen, he graduated from Oromocto High in 1974 and the family then settled in Bethel NB, where he met the love of his life, Martha. Early in their marriage, Brian went to Edmundston to take a pipefitters course, and they then settled in Moncton where he worked for the CN Shops. After their closure, Brian and Martha picked up their family in 1986 and moved back to Charlotte County where Brian ran a sporting good store. In 1995 he was hired at the Irving Pulp and Paper Mill in Saint John where he was employed as a pipefitter and instructor until his retirement in 2016.
Active in his local community, Brian was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40, the Masonic Lodge #12 F&AM, and Charlotte County Snowcruisers Club #74 in St. George. An avid outdoorsman, Brian truly loved hunting, fishing and going out on the ATV’s and side by side. As his granddaughters came into the picture, he was sure to drag them along for many fun adventures. Brian played hockey in his youngers days and as he got older, he and Martha took up curling and could often be found at the Saint George Curling Club. His sense of humor, quiet demeanor and loving devotion to his family will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to give immense thanks to the nurses at Eastern Charlotte Extra Mural, especially Cam, for all their love and compassion shown to Brian, allowing us to honor his wish of keeping him home. And a special thank you to Charlotte County Cancer for all their support.
