1965-2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Andrew Stewart Farquharson “Andy”, who passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2026, at the age of 60, following a courageous battle with ALS. He was surrounded by the love of his family, and although his passing leaves an incredible emptiness, we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace.
Andrew will be deeply missed by his children, Leopold (Jennifer) and Lynzie (Yulisa); his siblings, Nancy (Doug) and Ian; his beloved grandchildren, Ellie and Alix; as well as his nieces, cousins, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Ian and Constance, his brother Glendon, and sister Susan.
Andy spent much of his adult life working both on and off the water at Cooke Aquaculture. He dedicated many years of his life to his work and became a respected and valued part of the workplace. He took great pride in what he did and was known for his strong work ethic, continuing to put in hours right up until the very end.
Outside of work, Andy was someone who knew how to enjoy life. He loved his friends, music, playing his guitar, a good rum and Coke, and escaping somewhere warm when he had the chance. He had a particular love for golf and was always up for an opportunity to get out on the course. More than anything, Andy loved having a good time. He enjoyed sitting on the deck, or in his shed with friends, listening to music, telling stories, sharing laughs, and simply enjoying the company of the people around him.
Music was always a part of Andy’s life. He loved playing guitar and was never far from a song. He had a way of bringing people together, and many evenings were spent with friends gathered around, listening to him play, laughing, and enjoying one another’s company. He had a seemingly endless wealth of random knowledge, and his friends will certainly remember the many times he surprised them all with some obscure fact.
Andy was also well known for his cooking skills, earning himself the affectionate nickname “Ham Andy.” His homemade sausage was especially famous among his friends and family and was something he took great pride in. He was generous by nature and was the kind of friend who would lend a hand whenever someone needed it. If Andy could help, he did. His generosity, loyalty, and willingness to show up for the people he cared about were qualities that will be remembered by many.
Above all, Andy was a father and grandfather (Grampy). His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and the time he spent with Ellie and Alix was deeply meaningful to him. Ellie has a favorite memory of going to the hunting camp with Grampy and riding the four-wheeler. Alix has a favorite memory of going fishing with Grampy at a waterfall, and Grampy getting a fish hook in his finger!
Andy will be remembered by his family not only for the things he did, but for the moments they shared, the stories they will continue to tell, and the love that will remain long after his passing.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal services held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the ALS Society of NB and NS.
