Police say vehicle theft on the rise in Kennebecasis Valley

The Kennebecasis Regional Police Force is warning residents of increased vehicle theft.

The department issued a notice on its Facebook page at the beginning of June, highlighting the rise.

In an email statement to Acadia Broadcasting on June 16, Constable Alicia Conley said that, to date, there have been six incidents reported.

Conley added that the thefts have been happening in the evenings, typically in parking lots and residential areas in both Quispamsis and Rothesay, with thieves targeting both locked and unlocked vehicles.

According to Conley, some of the stolen vehicles have been recovered in other jurisdictions.

She also noted that only six incidents were reported throughout all of 2025, whereas this year, more incidents have occurred over shorter periods, with the increase becoming particularly noticeable in the past two to three months.

The department is encouraging residents to:

• Always lock vehicle doors and close windows.

• Remove keys and key fobs from unattended vehicles.

• Never leave a vehicle running while unattended, even for a short period.

• Park in well-lit areas whenever possible.

• Consider using anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks, immobilizers, or GPS tracking systems.

• Report any suspicious activity, including individuals checking vehicle doors or loitering in parking lots and residential neighbourhoods.

• Ensure home security systems and cameras are operating.

Residents are also being reminded not to leave valuables, identification, or personal documents visible inside their vehicles.
