1938-2026
The passing of Imelda Mary Anne (Gallant) Blanchard, wife of the late Leonard Joseph Blanchard, occurred peacefully with her family by her side at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on March 30, 2026. Born on April 16, 1938, she was a daughter to the late Patrick and Evangeline (Boucher) Gallant.
A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and sister-in-law, Imelda will be lovingly remembered by her children: Claudine (Glenn) Conley and Camille (Carolyn) Blanchard both of Blacks Harbour NB, Clarence (Heather) Blanchard, Clifford (Shirley) Blanchard and Corey (Jolene) Blanchard all of Pennfield NB; her grandchildren: Patricia (Mark), Jason (Tanya), Krysten (Obbie), Jennifer (Greg), Nicole (Brandon), Kristy (Michael), Shea-Lynn, Dastan, Cortney (Austin), Mallory (Noah), Samantha (Liam), Cliff (Illana), Connor and Bradley; great-grandchildren: Michael (Jess), Meranda (Nick), Alyssa, Mahdilin, Kolben, Krew, Jaxson, Ella, Marlee, Sean (Rose), Lauren, Makayla, Konner, Xavier, Bailey, Eva, Julia and Tessa; great-great-grandchildren: Benson, Hudson and Clark; one sister-in-law: Esther Pellerin of Moncton NB; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Imelda was predeceased by her grandchildren: Little Mike, Timmy and Danny; her siblings: Nazaire Gallant, Antoine Gallant, Laurie Gallant, Bertha Richard, Alma Aucoin and Thérèse Arsenault; and by several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Prior to retirement, Imelda was employed with Connor’s Bros. in Blacks Harbour for several years as a labourer and was also employed with Smith’s Restaurant. A social butterfly, she loved to socialize. Whether she was playing cards or going to Bingo, Imelda loved to get out and be in the company of her friends. Known as a Mrs. Fix It in her family, Imelda could often be found working on her newest DIY project. She loved music and in her younger days she enjoyed playing the guitar. She truly loved living at the Granite Town Seniors Complex where she made many friends and enjoyed playing cards with her longtime and special friend, Melva Murray, and her many other friends and neighbours.
Imelda loved the outdoors, planting a garden, and going camping and fishing with Leonard. She had a passion for crafts, mastering most! She spent countless hours quilting and made many items for her children and grandchildren over the years. She mastered the art of sewing early on in life, making dresses for special occasions as well as altering many pant legs over the years.
But what brought Imelda the most joy was the visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they truly made her day.
Imelda’s children would like to make special mention to our sister-in-law Shirley, for her devoted and loving care during mom’s last month or so, along with Shirley’s sister, Sadie, for her helping hand whenever Shirley needed it. Also, thanks very much to Extra Mural and all Imelda’s caregivers. We are forever grateful for all your help over the last few years.
