In addition to her parents, six brothers, one sister and husband, Alfreda was predeceased by one son, Michael Hill.
Prior to retirement, Alfreda worked for Connor’s Brothers in Blacks Harbour for 43 years. She was a longtime member of the Stella Maris Catholic Church and served many years with the Catholic Women’s League. Devoted to her faith, she was always one of the first to volunteer when help was needed. Alfreda also kept active as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and held various positions with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 39 in Blacks Harbour and was also an active member with the Harbour View Seniors.
Alfreda was a vibrant soul whose faith and love for family defined her life. An avid gardener, she nurtured not only her plants but also the relationships that surrounded her. Her love for travel took her on many adventures, but the happiest times were spent with her family, where the joyful noise of togetherness filled her heart.
Known for her love of volunteering and square dancing, Alfreda embraced life with enthusiasm and grace, often seen with a screwdriver in hand as she tackled various projects around the home—earning her the affectionate title of “Mrs. Fix-It.” She had a sweet tooth that was only rivaled by her talent for baking and cooking, frequently delighting family and friends with her delicious creations.
A beautiful quilter, Alfreda poured her creativity into making costumes and sewing clothes, ensuring that every stitch was a labor of love. She also cherished quiet moments spent puzzling, a pastime that reflected her thoughtful nature.
As the heart of the family, she was the central nucleus around which everyone gathered, always ready with food, a warm smile and a comforting presence. Whether it was carting her lawn chair to the beach or simply being the best Nana, her genuine spirit and pure heart touched everyone she met. Trusting in the Lord’s promises we believe she is still watching over us, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Kim, MJ, all the caregivers and Extra Mural team who provided invaluable support, help, and care. Their compassion and dedication were a great comfort and made a significant difference.
