Nearly 60 Deaths In Fires And On The Water

The Canadian Red Cross says 57 people died in 2019 because of house fires and water-related deaths in Atlantic Canada.

23 people died in house fires including one in Halifax in February where seven children from a Syrian family perished.

New Brunswick had eight deaths in house fires while PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador had two each.

34 people died because of unintended water-related fatalities last year.

In northern Labrador, seven men died in July after a float plane crashed and sank in a lake en route to a fishing lodge.

Nova Scotia had at least 14 water-related deaths, Prince Edward Island had four and there was one in New Brunswick.
