James “Jim” Oliver Thomas Dunlap

1949-2025

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of James “Jim” Oliver Thomas Dunlap, husband of Geraldine “Geri” (Downey) Dunlap of Rothesay NB and formerly of St. George NB. Born in Saint John NB on March 28, 1949, he was a son of the late James and Barbara “Jean” (Spinney) Dunlap.

A loving husband, step-father, step-grand-father, brother and friend, in addition to his wife Geri, Jim is survived by his step-daughter, Lindsey Reid and her daughter Lexi both of Rothesay NB; one brother, Terry (Geraldine) Dunlap of Saint John NB and his son Jamie Dunlap of Newfoundland; one sister, Pege Peters of Lake Utopia NB and her sons Jeremy Peters and Joel Peters; his long time special friends: Rick Doucet and Mike Murphy; several cousins and many friends.

Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Laurel; siblings: James MacDonald and Janet Dunlap; one brother-in-law: Joe Peters.

Jim started his working life as an air traffic controller in his early twenties. After leaving that profession, he entered the insurance business and at one time operated the local branch of the Co-operators. A very active member of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, Jim put much of his time and effort into helping the party anyway he could. An animal lover, he was known to take in many strays and truly loved all animals, especially his motel kitty, Elvis. In his free time, Jim could be found watching the ball game, especially the Blue Jays and enjoyed listening to Elvis music. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. In keeping with Jim’s wishes all services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. George Animal Shelter would be greatly appreciated by the family.
