West Saint John home extensively damaged by fire

Fire has caused extensive damage to a home on Saint John’s lower west side.

Emergency crews were called to Watson Street shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Platoon Chief Mark Arrand of the Saint John Fire Department said several crews responded to the scene.

“Crews found heavy fire and heavy smoke emitting from the building,” Arrand said in an interview.

“We had the fire under control within 45 minutes, fully extinguished within an hour and a half to two hours.”

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, said Arrand.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the department’s fire prevention and investigation division.
