Here’s 5 interesting things you can talk about this week with your family, friends and co-workers

1: Did you know that in 1879, a Mathew Murphy of Moores Mills, obtained a patent for for a specialized liquid pump he invented? The pump was designed to pump heavy fluids from barrels and is still used today.

2: The month of August was renamed in 8 BC, after the first Roman emperor, Augustus. Before this, it was called Sextilis.

3: A black ant typically travels a total distance of about 60 to 180 meters (200 to 600 feet) per day while foraging.

4: Your toe nails only grow about half as fast as your finger nails.

5: The top-grossing movie in August 1986 was James Cameron’s sci-fi action classic Aliens, which pulled in roughly $34.4 million during that month.
