Water Cooler Talk (April 20 – April 26)

Here’s 5 interesting things you can talk about this week with your family, friends and co-workers!

1: Did you know that there is an eastern white pine near the St. Croix River, in the area about half way between the Ledge Loop Road and Bayview Lane, that’s one of the thickest trees in Charlotte County? It has a girth of 3.47 meters (11.38 feet) around. Its age is unknown. It’s registered as specimen #65869 for preservation purposes.

2: Being one of the first signs of spring in our area, crocus flowers, with their bright purple petals, are “thermonastic”; meaning they open in response to sunlight and warmth, and close at night or during cloudy weather.

3: Earlobes can grow in size over time, which is likely due to stretching from gravity rather than tissue growth.

4: ‘Because You Loved Me’ by Celine Dion held the top position on the Billboard Hot 100 for much of April in 1996.

5: Famous industrialist Howard Hughes died in April, 1976, at the age of 70.
