Some mammography appointments rescheduled at Charlotte County Hospital

Some mammography appointments at the Charlotte County Hospital have been rescheduled due to what the health authority calls “temporary seasonal staffing challenges.”

Horizon Health said the medical imaging department, which typically offers services two to three days a week, is currently booking appointments into October.

“We know that timely access to breast screening is important, and we acknowledge the frustration that comes with delayed or cancelled appointments,” Jeff Carter, vice-president of quality, patient experience and professional services, said in a statement to our newsroom.

“Horizon remains fully committed to supporting early detection and treatment by ensuring patients have access to high-quality screening services, as close to home as possible.”

Carter said there is currently one medical radiation technologist vacancy at the hospital, which the health authority is actively recruiting for, but all other positions on the medical imaging team are filled.

It is unclear when mammography appointments will return to normal at the hospital.
