Many New Brunswickers were wishing on Wednesday morning that the weather was just an April Fool’s joke, but unfortunately, it wasn’t.
It was a treacherous Tuesday night for travel in parts of the province.
In Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick, there were numerous reports of cars and transport trucks sliding off the roads due to icy conditions because of freezing rain.
Conditions deteriorated quickly, and RCMP issued an advisory at around 10 o’clock to avoid travel if possible.
Some Emergency responders even had a tough time assisting motorists in need because hills en route to the call were covered in ice.
Crews finally began salting at around 9:30 pm on the main routes.
Roads were still a mess on Wednesday morning. Those who headed to work had some scraping to do to clean off the windshield.
Anglophone East schools closed for the day, as did a handful of Anglophone South schools, located in the Sussex area.

As of 8:30 am, weather warnings remained in effect for regions including Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick, Sussex, Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County, Fundy and the central regions of New Brunswick. Those areas are under Yellow alert freezing rain advisories.
Environment Canada has issued yellow alert snowfall warnings to the north.
Special weather statements remain in effect for regions including Saint John and County, Grand Manan and Coastal Charlotte County, St. Stephen and Northern Charlotte County, with rain and a risk of freezing rain in the forecast.
Residents in those regions received lots of rain overnight.
