Saint Andrews hosts open house to present new Market Wharf designs

Residents of Saint Andrews will have the opportunity to provide feedback on new Market Wharf and Market Square designs.

The town’s council is hosting an open house on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Fundy Engineering will present the new concepts, with larger-scale images available for residents to review.

After the presentation, residents can submit comments with their preferred design option.

This event comes after almost eight years of the town working on the project, and after facing significant public push back.

Fundy Engineering also released a report evaluating the wharf earlier this year as part of the process.

The report identified several recommendations, designs, and priorities to repair the different sections of the wharf, which will be decided through public input and in consideration of cost constraints and intended use

Previously the town was considering five other designs completed by engineering firm CBCL Engineering.

In early 2025, the town decided on one of the designs and later voted to tender it in July of that same year.

However, the tender was voted down based on the bids coming, as most of them where over the estimated $7.9 million cost of the project.

In early 2026, the town accepted the report done by Fundy Engineering and is now moving forward with public consultation after postponing it due to the passing of acting Mayor Kate Akagi.

Once a design is chosen, according to a report by The Courier, work on the wharf could begin this fall.
