A new report is outlining ways to strengthen safety and security in nursing homes across New Brunswick.
Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau said the review is meant to improve how long‑term care homes operate.
“This report provides a path for improving safety standards, communication and response times in long‑term care, setting the groundwork to deliver better care and peace of mind for residents and their families,” Boudreau said in a government release.
The report, Review of Safety and Security in Nursing Homes, identifies several opportunities for improvement.
It points to enhanced staffing levels, the use of technology and security systems, clearer communication materials for residents and families, and stronger safety policies and standards.
It also recommends creating new legislation focused on the care of older adults and working more closely with care providers to address challenges.
The province has also launched two new resources to help families understand how to raise concerns about long‑term care.
A new webpage outlines the steps for reporting a complaint, and an infographic offers a shorter guide to filing and escalating concerns.
Boudreau said the work reflects the government’s commitment to reviewing and strengthening safety protocols.
“We are committed to fulfilling our promise to review and strengthen safety protocols by building a care system where seniors and their families feel supported,” she said.
