The highly anticipated A24 film, The Drama, is finally playing in local theatres. What makes this release so special is that is the first time Zendaya and Robert Pattinson share the screen together as a pairing.
Written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, the film focuses on the stars as engaged couple Emma and Charlie. Based on the trailer alone, Emma reveals a dark and unsettling secret at the dinner table that changes their dynamic forever. I can sense the theme of the movie will be along the lines of: “Can a couple’s love survive an impossibly large obstacle?”
“A happily engaged couple is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails,” is all A24 is giving us. It sounds like the twist is the centerpiece of the plot, so you’ll have to go to the cinema yourself to unveil the big secret.
If A24 sounds foreign to you, the studio has its own “aesthetic” with its unique angle on storytelling, cinematography and creative freedom. They are the same team behind popular films like Midsommar, Lady Bird, Everything Everwhere All At Once, and Marty Supreme.
So far, the movie has a relatively high Rotten Tomatoes score of 84 per cent, which is quite promising.
