Over $521,000 in contraband and other items seized in Renous

Officials have seized a large amount of drugs and other products from a New Brunswick prison.

Staff at the Atlantic Institution in Renous discovered several packages that contained contraband and other unauthorized items on October 14.

Those items included crystal methamphetamine, hashish, tobacco, marijuana, shatter, edged weapons, USB card readers, SIM cards, as well as cellphones and accessories.

CSC says the estimated value of those items is around $521,000.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses several tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.

Police have been notified, and the investigation into the seizure is ongoing.
