New N.B. Green Party leader to be officially named in December

The New Brunswick Green Party will name a new leader before the end of the year.

Members will gather at a convention in Fredericton on Saturday, December 5.

MLA for Tantramar Megan Mitton is the only registered contestant, but the party will still hold a ratification vote to confirm the next leader.

Ballots will include Megan’s name and a ‘none of the above’ option.

“Even with only one registered contestant, the convention is still a very important part of the leadership process”, explains Dave Wagner, the chair of the Leadership Contest Committee.

“Not only do we want Green Party members to vote and have the final say, but we also see this as an important opportunity to come together, celebrate this new chapter and build momentum toward the next provincial election.“

Current leader David Coon announced in June that he would step down from the role when a new leader was chosen, and that he will not run in the next provincial election.

The full program for the convention is available HERE.
