UPD: Majority of N.B. outages restored

Wild weather this weekend left over 96,000 residents in the dark and scrambling to find a way to stay warm.

High winds knocked out power and left downed trees, branches and power lines on Friday night and Saturday.

NB Power spokesperson Elizabeth Fraser says more than 99 per cent of customers have now been restored.

Crews continue to work to get the remainder back online.

As of 11:30 Monday morning, just over 300 customers were still without power, but Fraser stated in an email that all remaining storm-related outages are expected to be resolved by the end of the day.

Strong winds were a factor in many outages.

Gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour were recorded at the Saint John Airport.

Moncton saw gusts peaking at about 80 kilometres per hour.

There were gusts of 132 kilometres per hour registered at the Confederation Bridge.

Saint John Energy experienced a number of outages on Friday, but the power was quickly restored. No outages were reported on Saturday.
