Two New Brunswick artists will represent at the 10th Jeux de la Francophonie in Yerevan, Armenia, from July 23 to Aug. 1, 2027.
Émilie Landry of Campbellton will compete in the song competition, and Hugo Rioux of Caraquet (Bas-Caraquet district) will compete in painting.
New Brunswick artists aged 18 to 35 submitted applications to participate in cultural competitions in a variety of disciplines. An international jury made the final selections based on artistic merit and quality.
“I signed up for the Jeux de la Francophonie because I wanted to have a truly unique cultural and personal exchange experience,” said Landry. “It’s an opportunity to represent New Brunswick culturally and to help promote the Canadian and Acadian Francophonie. I hope to give it my all and make the province proud!”
Artists will have the opportunity to present their work in a competitive setting and to participate in workshops and exchanges with other artists from the international Francophonie. These connections often lead to future creative collaborations and professional opportunities.
“I want to participate in the Jeux de la Francophonie to share an intimate perspective on Acadia through the Caraquet pier, a place steeped in history and memory,” said Rioux. “My work – a collage of torn fragments on handmade paper – speaks to an experience that is both Acadian and universal. The Games provide an opportunity to bring it into dialogue with the francophone community around the world.”
Held every four years, the Jeux de la Francophonie are the only major international event featuring both sporting and artistic competitions for member states and governments of La Francophonie. The Canadian delegation to the Games is divided into three teams: Canada, Canada-New Brunswick and Canada-Quebec.
