Man Arrested After Saint John Standoff

A 48-year-old man is in custody after an incident in Saint John’s south end on Wednesday night.

Police said they responded to an armed and barricaded person inside an apartment building on Charlotte Street shortly after 8 p.m.

Officers were able to negotiate with the suspect, who surrendered to police around 11:30 p.m.

Investigators said the man was taken into custody for assault with a weapon.

Police say there were no serious injuries and there is no further threat to the building’s tenants.
