Sad news from within Canada’s music scene this evening.
Montreal-raised singer/songwriter Sass Jordan has died; she was 63.
Her death, which occurred on Friday, comes just a month after she was forced to cancel remaining tour dates, including scheduled performances in Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, and Dryden.
The reasons were identified as health-related, but no specifics were provided.
Her passing was announced on Jordan’s social media pages on Saturday.
“On Oct 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, Sass Jordan peacefully crossed over to the other side. She remains in our hearts, an inimitable force of nature. An irreplaceable being of light and joy!” reads the post.
Jordan was born in England, but moved at a young age with her family to Montreal where her father had taken on a position at Concordia University.
In her early years, Jordan sang and performed around the Montreal area, later becoming a highly-touted session singer for several bands, most notably with The Box, appearing on their hit ’Affaire Dumoutier (Say To Me…)’ and starring in the video for ‘Closer Together.’
Jordan’s debut album, ‘Tell Somebody,’ was released in 1988, with its title track reaching #11 in Canada.
She would go on to win the Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1989, later earning nominations for Best Female Vocalist in 1990, 1993 and 1995.
Jordan would also become a judge on Canadian Idol, remaining through all six seasons.
She released 10 studio albums over her career and a live album, ‘Live in New York Ninety-Four,’ which was released in 2023.
