An inmate was assaulted over the weekend at a New Brunswick penitentiary.
In a statement released Wednesday, Correctional Service Canada said the incident happened at Atlantic Institution in Renous on Sept. 4.
CSC said staff at the prison evaluated the inmate before they were taken to hospital for treatment.
The Blackville detachment of the RCMP is assisting the prison in an investigation of the incident.
CSC said the alleged attacker has been identified, and appropriate actions have been taken.
No staff members or other inmates were injured during the incident.
