Government announces more funding for N.B. publishers

New Brunswick publishers are getting a boost from the provincial government.

The province announced an additional $200,000 in grant funding for the 2026-2029 funding period.

It brings the amount available under the Book and Periodical Publishers Operational Support Program for that period to $550,000.

“How can we not be pleased with this additional commitment from our government?” said Marie Cadieux, the literary and general director of Bouton d’or Acadie-Mouton noir Acadie.

“As literacy challenges intensify in our province, and as humanity more than ever needs to identify what connects us to one another, this support is very timely.”

The funding helps publishers produce and present literary works.

Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Isabelle Thériault said the funds will help cover costs of the various stages of producing books and ensure New Brunswick voices and stories reach readers in the province and beyond.

“This increase underscores the importance of the literary sector and its contribution to our province’s identity and economy,” the minister said.

Thériault added the increase has already helped support three new publishers, bringing the total number of funded publishers to nine.
