From St. Stephen to the World Stage

In the quiet rink of St. Stephen, where the air smells of cold ice and old leather, Isabel Nozzolillo’s skates have been carving out a dream for years. Each sunrise practice and late-night drill was a quiet promise she made to herself—and this April, that promise is taking her across the Atlantic.

The news arrived like a breakaway goal: Isabel had been scouted by Pro Hockey Development Toronto. She wasn’t just playing in a tournament; she was headed to the World Selects Invitational, a stage where future Olympians are born.

From April 16 to 26, the familiar landscape of New Brunswick will be replaced by the historic rinks of Italy and France. Instead of local rivals, Isabel will find herself lining up at center ice against the best the world has to offer—the disciplined speed of Sweden, the grit of Finland, and the powerhouse French national team.

It is a journey of 5,000 miles, but she isn’t skating them alone.

While Isabel handles the training, her community is helping handle the “heavy lifting” off the ice. To get a small-town girl to the big-world stage, it takes a village. Every sponsorship from a local business and every donation from a neighbor is a piece of the gear she’ll wear as she represents St. Stephen on the global stage.

As she prepares to trade her local jersey for the chance to face the world, the goal is clear: gain the experience of a lifetime, prove that talent knows no borders, and bring a piece of home to the ice in Europe.

You can show your support for Isabel by attending The Artificially Hip at the St. Stephen Legion on Saturday night.
