Just offshore from the southern tip of the Blacks Harbour peninsula, you’ll find a true hidden gem of Charlotte County! Pea Point Lighthouse stands against the Bay of Fundy as a literal monument to our areas past.
Guarding the eastern entrance of the harbour, a lighthouse has stood on the point since 1878, nearly 100 years before the village of Blacks Harbour was incorporated. The original lighthouse, a 30 foot wooden structure topped by a curious green signal light, was replaced in 1965 by the current concrete building, with a 34 foot tower. The decision was made to build from concrete to help withstand the harsh conditions.

The lighthouse now sits on the 100 acres of land that make up the Conners Brothers Nature Preserve. With the preserve covering nearly 2km of Atlantic coastline, it’s an oasis for hikers looking to experience a variety of biodiversity along with some spectacular ocean views. With the island accessible by foot twice a day, thanks to the world famous Bay of Fundy tides, the marked hiking trail near the ferry terminal covers about 1.25km in one direction. A return trip will take you an estimated 1 hour to complete. Just make sure you keep an eye on the tides so you don’t get stuck on the island!
Perched on a rugged but photogenic shoreline, the lighthouse is a reminder of Blacks Harbour’s long history in the fishing industry.
