Eighth annual International Culturefest coming to Saint John

Uptown Saint John will have a certain international flair later this summer.

The annual International Culturefest will return for its eighth year over the New Brunswick Day weekend.

Organized by the Saint John Newcomers Centre, this year’s festival will line up with Area 506.

SJNC interim executive director Cecilia Que said the festival is a meaningful celebration in the community.

“Each year it reminds us the incredible strengths that come from diversity, connection, and shared experience,” Que said.

Co-director Lorne Daltrop says this year’s festival will return to a more traditional format.

“We will have a cultural village made up of 20 to 25 different cultures,” Daltrop said.

There will also be 15 to 20 food vendors and a dozen craft vendors.

“We will have a cultural stage that will, for two days, be made up of cultural performers from around the world,” Daltrop said. “It’s a chance to hear music and dance and performance that you won’t be able to see anywhere else but on that stage.”

The festival will be uptown on Aug. 1 and 2.
