COVID-19 Will Be Devastating To N.B. Tourism

The Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick is keeping a close eye on the effects of COVID-19.

They have been conducting weekly surveys with businesses and other organizations impacted since the pandemic began.

President and CEO Carol Alderdice says they are seeing the impacts get worse with time.

“The first survey, you could tell that most were mainly seasonal, and they weren’t affected yet. The second survey, then we saw cancellations, which affect the seasonals a lot because they live on the three or four-month revenues.”

Alderdice says the impacts of COVID-19 will be devastating on the province.

“It is the third-largest economic driver in New Brunswick. It’s a very, very important industry for the province. People may not think of different things in tourism. Sports, cultural, heritage, meetings and conventions, all of this fall under tourism and it brings visitors to the province.”

Association recently sent out its third survey. If you are a part of the tourism sector, you are welcome to fill it out.

Data collected through the survey is used to provide evidence-informed recommendations to all levels of government.
