Charlotte FM radiothon brings community together to raise $462,000

It was a team effort.

A community came together to raise $462,000 in twelve hours for the Charlotte County hospital.

The goal for the 13th annual Charlotte FM radiothon was to raise enough money for a new 3D mammography machine.

St. Stephen Mayor and Charlotte County Hospital Foundation President Steve Backman says this will help replace the current unit, which was the latest technology twelve years ago. He says it is reaching the end of its life, and it needs to be replaced with the latest and greatest technology.

“It’s actually two pieces of equipment to give us a little more flexibility. The additional piece of equipment is for contrast. Previously if you had something suspicious, you would have to go up to Saint John and get contrast radiography, now we can do it all here,” Backman explained.

The Charlotte County Hospital Foundation says it’s an investment in health and wellbeing, bringing advanced breast imaging technology closer to home.

Backman says they’ll be ordering the new equipment on Friday.
