Campbellton mayor dies suddenly at age 75

The mayor of Campbellton has passed away.

According to a Facebook post from his family on September 26, Michel Soucy died of cardiac arrest. They said they will share more details at the appropriate time.

“But in this moment, we want to express our deep admiration and gratitude for the man he was,” says the post.

Soucy was elected mayor in this spring’s municipal elections for his first term, despite over 20 years of experience in municipal politics.

Premier Susan Holt says his passing is a big loss for the community and sends condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

“Michel had a heart for his community and dedicated his life to making Campbellton a place where it is good to live,” says Holt.
