Additional time behind bars for N.S. man in N.B. prison on child sex related charges

A Nova Scotia man behind bars in a New Brunswick federal prison has been sentenced for child sex related crimes.

RCMP say 30-year-old Jeremy Christian Thompson was arrested in June 2024 while behind bars for a previous crime.

He was found guilty in March 2026 for possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

In October, Thompson was handed an additional three-year prison sentence. He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for life and to provide a DNA sample.

According to an RCMP news release, once Thompson is released from prison, he will have to abide by conditions set out by the court for a period of 20 years.

Police began the initial investigation in 2023, after the New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit received information from the federal prison about an inmate.

On February 14, 2024, the New Brunswick RCMP ICE Unit, RCMP Central Region Ottawa Serious and Organized Crime and the RCMP’s Digital Forensic Services worked together to obtain a warrant to search a cellphone.

Thompson was arrested at the prison four months later.
