An Alex Donovan hat trick gave the Saint John Sea Dogs just what they needed to finish their Québec road trip with a win.
Donovan scored the final three goals of a 7-5 win over Drummondville on Sunday, tying things up late in the second period before a pair of third-period tallies to complete the natural hat trick.
Alexis Joseph got things started for the Sea Dogs just two and a half minutes into the game.
The Voltigeurs responded with a pair midway through from William Dumont and Jayden Rousseau.
But Saint John tied things up late in the opening frame thanks to Jesse Dunlap’s first of the season.
Loic Brunet and Jacob Boucher but the Volts on top with a pair just 24 seconds apart early in the second.
Thomas Charbonneau cut the lead to one for the Sea Dogs, but Dumont’s second of the game restored a two-goal lead.
Jamie Glance continued his hot stretch for Saint John to cut the lead to one before Donovan went to work.
Samuel Meloche stopped 26 of 31 shots to secure the win for the Sea Dogs.
Mathys Fortin stopped five of seven in the first period for Drummondville, with Jan Larys taking over for the rest of the game. He stopped 19 of 23 in relief.
The Sea Dogs are back at TD Station on Halloween to take on the Moncton Wildcats.
Game time is 4 p.m.
