Eagles snap Sea Dogs win streak at five

The Saint John Sea Dogs saw their five-game win streak come to a screeching halt Saturday afternoon.

The Cape Breton Eagles scored four unanswered goals on their way to a 4-1 victory over Saint John.

Olivier Groulx opened the scoring for the home side late in the first period, but that was all the Sea Dogs could manage.

Maxim Schäfer scored twice in the second for Cape Breton, while Aiden McCullogh and Noah Jettelson added insurance goals in the third period.

The Sea Dogs managed just 17 shots on Eagles goaltender Lucas Beckman, while Samuel Meloche did what he could for the home team, turning aside 28 of 32.

The Sea Dogs don’t have much time to reflect on the loss.

They face the top team in the QMJHL Sunday afternoon when the Val d’Or Foreurs visit TD Station.

The Foreurs are coming off a 2-1 win over Moncton on Saturday.

Sunday, the Sea Dogs will also celebrate Dia de los Muertos.

The team is partnering with the Dia de los Muertos Atlantic Canada Festival, and fans will be able to enjoy an afternoon celebrating Mexican culture and traditions.

There will be live Mexican music, face painting, interactive art and a special live fire performance.

Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
