B.C. man arrested near Saint John with fentanyl

A British Columbia man is facing drug charges after a traffic stop in the Saint John area.

On Oct. 14, a member of the Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP tried to stop a vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 7 near Grand Bay-Westfield.

The vehicle did not stop and continued toward Saint John at high speed.

A short time later, members of the Hampton RCMP found the vehicle on Highway 1 in the Saint John area and were able to pull the vehicle over.

During their investigation, police arrested a 40-year-old man from Richmond, B.C., and seized quantities of fentanyl and cash.

The suspect appeared in Saint John provincial court on Oct. 15 and was charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and flight from police.

He’s being held in custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on Oct. 19 for a bail hearing.
