“Ability New Brunswick was incredibly supportive.” – Tasha Robitaille

A broken foot helped Tasha Robitaille deepen her understanding of the barriers people face when they use mobility devices. She noticed that getting into and moving around businesses, like restaurants, became more difficult.
As a business owner herself, Tasha had started the process of improving accessibility at La Belle Cabane, the holistic sanctuary she runs with her family in Kingston, north of Saint John. She used the Accessible NB service to review the five wilderness cabins and forest spa they operate on 40 acres of woodland. They were also working on plans for a new event space, which allowed them to use the service to help make accessibility improvements before construction began. “The review was extremely helpful,” she says.
The service offered by Ability NB is designed to help New Brunswick foster more accessible environments. The reviews provide specific recommendations for new design, modifications or adaptations to buildings that improve accessibility.
Based on her experience, Tasha believes accessibility reviews are an essential step in any new building project. “Ideally, this will be something that is at the forefront of any construction project,” she adds.
