MPs return to Ottawa for fall sitting

Members of Parliament are back on Parliament Hill as the House of Commons resumes for the fall session.

The federal government says its focus will be on the economy, jobs, trade, and affordability, with a federal budget expected later this fall.

According to multiple sources, the Liberals are also expected to introduce new legislation, including changes to the Canada Labour Code and an extension of the federal gas tax holiday.

Meanwhile, Conservatives are expected to press Prime Minister Mark Carney on trade talks with the United States and plans to strengthen ties with the European Union.

The House of Commons is scheduled to sit until December 11 before breaking for the holidays.
