Saint Simon Catholic Church reduced to ashes

Fire has destroyed New Brunswick’s tallest wooden church.

Saint Simon church near Caraquet was built in 1917.

Residents watched early on Monday morning as an inferno engulfed the structure, leaving behind just charred remains.

In a social media post, the Village of Caraquet said its hearts are heavy. It says a true emblem of its heritage has been ravaged by flames.

There’s no word on the cause yet, but reports indicate it is considered suspicious.
