1936 – 2026

Gene Stuart Atkinson, 89, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at Campobello Lodge on Campobello Island.

Gene was born in North Lake Parish to Earl Atkinson and Lottie Lutz on July 9, 1936. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness, and appreciation for the people around him. Gene valued kindness, good company, and family. He especially enjoyed sharing conversations over meals and never turned down something sweet.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Sherry Butler, and his son, Gene Atkinson.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sharon Atkinson, who passed away on September 17, 2007.

In keeping with Gene’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Campobello Lodge for the love, compassion, friendship, and exceptional care they gave Gene throughout the years. The kindness shown to him and the wonderful meals and companionship they provided made Campobello Lodge feel like family and home to him.
