Philip Joseph Bastarache

1972 – 2026

It is with profound sadness that the family of Philip Bastarache announces his passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 26, 2026, at the age of 53.

Born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Philip spent his life in the community he loved, building a legacy of deep-rooted family ties and lifelong friendships.

Philip was, first and foremost, a devoted and loving father. He took immense pride in his roles as a dad to Zack and a stepdad to Greg. For Philip, time spent with his sons was his greatest joy; whether they were out for a drive, enjoying a movie, or simply sharing a quiet moment, being together was always his top priority.

He will be remembered for his magnetic personality, his gift for storytelling, and his unwavering, positive outlook on life. No obstacle could slow him down; Philip possessed a rare ability to find light in any situation and to bring a smile to those around him—even, and especially, when it was needed most.

Beyond his roles as a father and friend, Philip was a man of many passions, each one revealing a different layer of his vibrant character. He was never one to sit still; whether he was perfecting a project for his home with his skilled carpentry, heading out to the water for a day of fishing, tipping with his sons, or hitting the gym to work out, he thrived on staying active and productive. His downtime was just as intentional, defined by his love for a classic movie night—especially if it meant watching Cobra—or catching the latest wrestling match. He truly valued the simple joys in life: a hot cup of coffee, a day spent soaking up the sun at Gene’s Beach, and the timeless, high-energy soundtrack of his favorite rock and roll records. Whether he was working hard on a craft, sharing a laugh, or just enjoying his favorite pastimes, Philip approached everything with an enthusiasm that was as infectious as the music he loved

To be in Philip’s company was to feel truly seen and supported. He was a man who lived with a generous heart, offering warmth, humor, and a listening ear to everyone he met. being around Philip meant you were always part of the fun. He had an infectious energy that lifted everyone’s spirits the moment he walked into a room. He leaves behind a community of friends and family who were made better simply by knowing him. His spirit, humor, and strength will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.

Philip leaves behind his son Zack, step son Greg (Kenzie), grandchildren Alistair and Wesley, all of St. Stephen NB. Sisters Murielle Golding (Ian) of Holland Center Ontario, Jeannine Hall of Bonny River New Brunswick,  Bernadette McSorley (Tim) of Richmond Hill Ontario, Linda Estey (Roger) of Burnaby British Columbia. Special niece Megan Kierstead. His girl Linda Justason and helping neighbour Garry Gaddas.

He was predeceased by his parents Jeannette and Phillip Bastarache, and one brother-in-law, Lewis Hall, and best friend Larry Hatt.

He will also be deeply missed by his extended family and friends.

The Family would like to thank the staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their amazing and compassionate care shown towards Phill.
