1959 – 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Katherine “Kathy” Deborah Mallock, née Gulliver, who passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the age of 66, after a hard-fought battle with Huntington’s disease.
Kathy was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on November 13, 1959, the daughter of the late Ira McClelland Gulliver Jr. and Rose Marie Gulliver, née Reid, and grew up in Sussex, New Brunswick. She graduated from the A.J. McMaster School of Nursing in Moncton in 1979 and devoted many years to her work as an ICU nurse, first at the Saint John General Hospital and later at the Saint John Regional Hospital following the closure of the General. After marrying the love of her life, William “Billy” Mallock, on August 29, 1989, she moved to Grand Manan Island, where together they built their home and raised their two children, Douglas and Valerie. She also continued her nursing career on Grand Manan, where she worked for several years at the Grand Manan Hospital and the Grand Manan Nursing Home.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Ira McClelland Gulliver Jr. and Rose Marie Gulliver; her husband, William “Billy” Mallock; and her sister, Wanda Crawford.
She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Dale Gulliver of Vancouver; her son, Douglas Mallock (Allison) of Quispamsis; her daughter, Valerie Hall (Matthew) of Pennfield; and her cherished grandsons, Noah, Myles, and Wyatt. She will also be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Throughout her battle with Huntington’s disease, and after the untimely passing of her husband, Billy, Kathy showed remarkable strength, positivity, and perseverance. She found great joy in seeing her children become involved in the Huntington’s community and in advocacy efforts that helped raise awareness and understanding for others affected by the disease.
Her family will remember her not only for her strength, but also for her compassion, her dedication as a nurse, and the deep joy and love her grandchildren brought to her life.
A funeral service will be held at Seal Cove Baptist Church (1904 Rte 776, Grand Manan, NB E5G 3H2) on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Ward McComiskey officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, with a reception to follow back at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to the Huntington Society of Canada.
