Saint John vacant building damaged in two‑alarm fire

A vacant building in Uptown Saint John was damaged in a two‑alarm fire early Monday, according to the Saint John Firefighters Association.

The association stated that crews were dispatched to Hazen Street shortly before 8 a.m.

Firefighters reported finding smoke and flames coming from the second and third floors when Engine 1 and Ladder Tower 1 arrived.

Firefighters searched the building to make sure no one was inside.

Crews also advanced hose lines and opened walls and ceilings to stop the fire from spreading through the upper floors.

Five city fire crews responded to the call, according to the association, and no injuries were reported.
