Former Saint John mayor Ivan Court has died

Former Saint John Mayor Ivan Court has passed away.

The City said Court was a lifelong Saint Johner, educator, and public servant who spent 14 years on the Common Council, including four as mayor from 2008 to 2012..

Flags at municipal buildings have been lowered to half-mast in recognition of Court’s service and dedication.

Saint John–Kennebecasis MP Wayne Long also shared condolences in a social media post on Tuesday.

“Saddened to hear of the passing of former Saint John Mayor Ivan Court. Ivan devoted much of his life to public service — as a teacher, councillor, and mayor — always striving to make our city better,” Long said.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him.”
