Former Westfield mayor, councillor dies

Flags are being flown at half-mast in Grand Bay-Westfield to honour a former mayor and councillor.

Kevin Thorne passed away on Sunday after a lengthy battle with cancer, according to his obituary.

Thorne served three years on the Village of Westfield council. He was also mayor from 1983 to 1992.

Outside of politics, Thorne worked in the chemistry department at NB Power for 37 years.

He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Boy Scouts, Westfield United Church, and Fundy Swat.

Flags will remain at half-mast at the Grand Bay-Westfield town office and the former Village of Westfield office until Monday.

A funeral service for the former mayor and councillor will take place on Saturday.
