UPDATED: Quick Thinking By Codiac RCMP Saves Young Child

It was quick thinking by Codiac Regional RCMP that saved the life of a young child under the age of 12.

Mounties were called to a home between Mountain Road and Wheeler Boulevard in Moncton around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday to a child in mental distress.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the child on top of the home’s roof, standing dangerously close to the power lines.

RCMP bought them down to safety soon after.

“Our members did an exceptional job using their training and the full range of their skills to assess and successfully resolve this incident,” said Codiac RCMP Staff Sergeant Dave MacDonnell in a statement.

“Mental health calls, especially those involving minors, are complex and challenging. I want to thank our members for their professionalism, compassion, and quick action in dealing with this situation.”

The child was taken to the hospital to be evaluated as a precaution.

It is unclear how the child got on the roof, but nobody was injured.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story indicated the child was 12 years old. In fact, the child was under the age of 12.
