A Greek immigrant who has lived in St. George for forty years would like to be the town’s new mayor.
John Detorakis is a retired nuclear engineer who worked with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in keeping Point Lepreau safe.
In recent years, he has been helping with the family business, a flower shop.
“I had a few problem with how this town is run and my daughter who has returned to take over running the farm has persuaded me that I should stop complaining so I have put my hat in the ring for this election,” Detorakis said.
Detorakis said he hinks he can be a strong voice by lobbying and putting forward a workable plan.
“We do the everyday things like looking after the water and sewers and looking after salting the roads after the storm but we had to keep in our mind every month the long-term growth and do something about it,” Detorakis said.
Detorakis said he doesn’t use campaign signs but, instead he prefers to engage with people in person or online.
