Nominations Close For Municipal Elections

Voters in New Brunswick now know who they will be voting for in the upcoming municipal elections.

Nominations for the municipal, district education council and regional health authority elections closed at 2 p.m. Friday.

Two people are in the running for mayor in St. Stephen: incumbent Allan MacEachern and Vernon Card. All six candidates for council have been elected by acclamation.

In Saint Andrews, incumbent mayor Doug Naish will go up against deputy mayor Brad Henderson. The race for the town’s six council seats includes 16 candidates.

St. George has three people running for mayor: incumbent Faith Avery, John Detorakis and Sharon Tucker. A total of 12 people are running for the town’s six council seats.

Heather Chase and John Craig are running for mayor in Blacks Harbour. There are 13 people are running for the village’s five council seats.

On Campobello Island, incumbent mayor Brett Newman will go up against Harvey Matthews. Alex Carroll and Elizabeth Butler have been elected to council by acclamation. There are four candidates for the community’s remaining two council seats.

Two people are running for mayor on Grand Manan: incumbent Dennis Greene and Bonnie Morse. The race for the village’s nine council seats includes 17 candidates.

Incumbent McAdam mayor Ken Stannix has elected by acclamation. Five people are running for the four council seats.

Voters will head to the polls on May 10. You can find the candidates for all New Brunswick municipalities, along with district education councils and regional health authorities, on the Elections New Brunswick website.
