A new informal online running group in southern New Brunswick is helping runners stay connected and motivated during the pandemic.
Founder Abby Pond says the nascent Facebook page has already attracted over 30 runners from a variety of areas such as Grand Manan and Campobello.
Pond says she started it because it’s been difficult not attending events and races.
“I have been isolated from people so I have been looking for ways to connect and for motivation to keep my self going during the restricted phases we have been going through.”
She says those who have joined the group expressed the same sentiment.
“Getting a lot of feedback from people. It’s the same thing, they’re looking for people to help keep them motivated or helping them reach their goals. Just to share and talk about the sport and what they love about it and what keeps them doing.”
She is surprised by the variety of people who have been joining.
“Everyone from triathletes that have been in high-level competition to people like me, who can be passed, with people who are walking at a fast pace.”
Pond says she is looking forward to running with them in the future once restrictions are lifted.
